Piers Chapman’s Expertise I am an oceanographer with interests in both chemical and physical oceanography. I was appointed Head of the Department of Oceanography at Texas A&M University in 2007 until August 2013 and am currently a professor in the department. I'm currently working on two major programs: one, funded by NOAA, is on the annual hypoxic zone that appears off the Louisiana and Texas coasts every summer. The second, for which I am the consortium leader, focuses on the tragic 2010 BP Macondo platform blowout. This second project is part of a multi-year, multi-consortium program under the auspices of the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative, funded by BP (see http://gulfresearchinitiative.org/). I have written some 70 papers and book chapters, including editing a number of atlases and special issues of journals (listed below).
