Door mijn (vroegere) werk aan duurzame voedselsysteemtransformatie, natuur- en klimaatbeleid, circulariteitstransities en verantwoorde (biotechnologische) innovatie ben ik steeds beter gaan begrijpen dat de klimaat- en biodiversiteitscrisis die het leven zoals wij dat kennen bedreigt, een integrale aanpak vereist die tegelijkertijd is afgestemd op de waarden van natuur, rechtvaardigheid en inclusiviteit. Een aanpak bovendien die zichtbaar omarmt dat niemand alles weet of kan. We hebben de zeldzame combinatie nodig van nederigheid, samenwerking en diepe aspiratie, waarin kennis, innovatie, ondernemerschap en beleid allemaal een even belangrijke rol spelen. ---------- I always strife to approach topics and people in an open-minded way, to lead by example, and to stretch the boundaries of what is conceived as possible. Furthermore, having a hands-on mentality while being convinced that there is nothing so practical as a good theory, my work is solution-oriented and consistently in search for a solid, diverse and socially robust knowledge base. At present, I find great pleasure and satisfaction in contributing to solidifying the foundations of Dutch democracy, by working on an action-based citizenship education program for high school students called Stadslab - or city lab. Through my (past) work on sustainable food system transformation, nature and climate policy, circularity transitions and responsible (biotechnological) innovation, I have ever better come to understand that the climate and biodiversity crisis that threatens life as we know it requires an integral approach that is simultaneously tailored to the values of nature, justice and inclusivity. An approach, moreover, that visibly embraces the fact that no one knows all or can do everything.
