Prem Krishnamurthy’s Expertise Prem Krishnamurthy is an award-winning designer, author, and educator. Working across disciplines and cultural contexts, he designs artistic tools and strategies for social transformation. Over the past 20+ years, Prem has helped found and lead successful design studios, cultural institutions, large-scale exhibitions. publishing imprints, and other collaborative platforms that support a shared, complex, and diverse idea of community. He has also curated major exhibitions including “Oh, Gods of Dust and Rainbows”, the 2022 edition of FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art; “Our Silver City, 2094” at Nottingham Contemporary; and “Ministry of Graphic Design” in Sharjah, UAE. He received the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Communications Design in 2015 and KW Institute for Contemporary Art’s “A Year With…” residency fellowship in 2018. His professional papers were acquired by Bard College’s Center for Curatorial Studies in 2019. Prem currently directs Wkshps, a multidisciplinary design practice, and organizes Department of Transformation, an emergent, multiform pedagogical platform. In 2022, Domain published his book-length epistolary essay, “On Letters”. His experimental electronic book, “P!DF”, is available online. His extensive experience with museums, universities, non-profit institutions, publishers, artists, architects, and brands internationally informs the strategic basis of his practice. Prem regularly curates exhibitions across the world, writes and publishes in scholarly books and catalogues, and teaches and lectures widely across educational and commercial contexts. In 2004, he co-founded Project Projects, recognized as one of the world’s leading graphic design studios. A comprehensive selection of the studio’s work was acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago for its permanent collection. In 2012, Prem founded P!, an experimental art gallery located in New York City’s Chinatown until 2017. The gallery’s program transformed artistic careers and was lauded in the press for its groundbreaking and interdisciplinary approach. In 2019, his professional papers and design work from 1997–2017 were acquired by Bard College’s Center for Curatorial Studies for its research archive. He has taught internationally across fine art, design, and curating programs, and has served on several non-profit boards. Prem has received grants from Artis, Graham Foundation, Mondriaan Fonds, and New York State Council for the Arts. He is a graduate of Yale University and a Fulbright Fellow.
