Rebecca Seal’s Expertise In everything I do, I am interested in what it means to be human. Whether I am writing a book, researching recipes or working as a journalist, TV presenter or podcaster, I am always looking for ways to understand how we connect with each other. My latest book is 'Be Bad, Better - How Not Trying So Hard Will Set You Free'. It came out in December 2023 and is about why our so-called worst bits are not really bad at all, covering everything from laziness to clutter, fatness to ageing, sadness to anger. It's a science and evidence-based book featuring over 40 experts and thinkers, threaded through with memoir about how I have learned to navigate life as an anxious perfectionist in a consumerist economy which thrives on us feeling insecure. My previous non-fiction book was ‘Solo: How To Work Alone (And Not Lose Your Mind)’, published September 2020 by Profile Books in the UK and by Simon and Schuster in the USA in February 2021. Incredibly, I wrote most of it in 2019, with no clue of how relevant it was about to become. It has now been translated into nine other languages. I'm the host of the Solo Collective podcast, a series of conversations about the experience of working alone and how to cope with it, designed for anyone who works by or for themselves. I give talks and workshops about how to work from home (or anywhere) successfully, and how to create a healthy and happy working environment when you're always out of the office. When I'm not writing books, I’m a features, food and drink writer, TV presenter and broadcaster. I have been freelance for 12 years; prior to that I was an assistant editor at the Observer newspaper in London (my first proper job was as an assistant on Observer Food Monthly, the newspaper's food magazine; later, I also worked on Observer Woman magazine). I'm the author of 11 cookbooks, mainly written with the LEON restaurant group and the Ginger Pig butchery, and I write for newspapers and magazines worldwide. For 4 years, I was a part of the presenting team at Sunday Brunch on Channel 4, appearing every week. I now guest occasionally. I am an experienced columnist (I had a weekly column in the Evening Standard for four years, and another in the Guardian for two years) and editor (I was editor of two quarterly magazines for Soho House & Co., for five years). I take part in a few carefully chosen brand partnerships, hosting events and creating bespoke food and drink recipes, video content and other collateral for media campaigns.
