Robert Fowler’s Expertise I am an engineer at heart and for as long as I can remember I have always enjoyed building things. It started off with tactile things and I pursued a degree in Civil Engineering. At the same time I had a keen interest in Computer Science and Software Engineering. In both fields my interest was drawn to the basic foundations and building blocks, like patterns, organisation of capabilities, feedback loops, value streams and flow. Agile concepts and methodologies immediately made sense and I journeyed deeply into these. Currently, I find myself in a space where I am challenged by an architectural change; Monolithic legacy Application to a microservice architecture. Alongside this I am challenged by the effects of rapid organisational scaling among other things. I have been fascinated by how the basic building blocks like grouping and organisation and tools like Domain Driven Design (DDD) can help drive organisation restructuring to help focus, and strengthen ownership and capability boundaries. I have also been fascinated by the large human aspect that is involved in these types of changes. I find myself in a space where I am responsible for 14 small focused teams and in my care are developers, QA's, Scrum Masters, Practice Leads, and a few PO's.
