Ryan Button’s Expertise Right out of high school, I first went to school for the Heating, Refrigeration Air Conditioning Technician program at Algonquin College and received a job at Air One Mechanical as an HRAC Technician once completed school. Working in the mechanical field gave me hands on experience and practical knowledge of how systems work, how long jobs would take, and practicality of completing jobs in a certain way. After a year of work, I decided that I would be more interested in the design of mechanical systems, as opposed to just the installation. In 2011, I signed up for school again in the Mechanical Engineering Technologist Program and graduated in 2014. This gave me technical experience in the mechanical field learning about the design and how many mechanical systems work. I continued working for Air One Mechanical all through college to keep gaining the hands on experience. Near the end of the Mechanical Engineering Program (January 2014) I was working at both GAL Power as a Project Coordinator and Air One Mechanical as an HRAC Technician and going to school full time and continued this until June 2014. I was offered to move to Newfoundland and work as a Project Coordinator on the Vale Long Harbor Nickel Processing Plant. While working in Newfoundland, I signed up for the Construction Project Management course at Algonquin College to gain management experience and be a well rounded employee with technical, hands on, and management experience in the mechanical field. Once I graduated the Construction Project Management course at Algonquin and commissioning was finished in Newfoundland I came back to Ottawa and started a role as a Project Manager for Gal Power in January 2016. After quite a bit of experience in project management I started my own company (RM Contracting) while working at GAL Power as a secondary source of income and within 2 years the company had grown to a customer/employee base that it had to become a full time job and ran the company for 8 years until I sold it in 2023.
