Sarah Guyer’s Expertise u2022 Lead the development of a health facility assessment tool and developed guidance on secondary data collection for a multi-country research study supported by the World Bank, aiming to strengthen health systems to address the needs of displaced and host populations in contexts of protracted displacement. u2022 Advance the Program on Forced Migration and Healthu2019s research and advocacy on COVID-19 and displacement, including leading the production of a daily briefing on COVID-19 and migration that is currently distributed to more than 500 policymakers, donors, practitioners, and academics, and co-authoring a Knowledge Brief for the World Bank on prevention and mitigation of secondary health effects of COVID-19 in displacement settings. u2022 Conducted qualitative data analysis and co-authored a research report on promoting the resilience and self-reliance of Syrian refugees and host communities in Jordan, In My Own Hands: A Medium-Term Approach Towards Self-Reliance and Resilience of Syrian Refugees and Host Communities in Jordan. Developed dissemination materials and presented policy recommendations to diverse stakeholders. u2022 Provide research, programmatic, proposal, and teaching support to faculty, serving as a teaching assistant for four post-graduate courses on Investigative Methods in Complex Emergencies, Sexual and Reproductive Health in Humanitarian Settings, Public Health and Humanitarian Action, and Chronic Diseases in Protracted Crises.u2022 Conducted pre-baseline formative assessment for USAID-supported implementation research project designed to address barriers to care-seeking, timely referral, and quality service delivery of emergency obstetric and newborn care in Northern Region, Ghana. Conducted quantitative analysis of health facility service data using SPSS. u2022 Collaborated with stakeholders at multiple levels of the Ghana Health Service and conducted interviews during facility quality improvement visits to identify potential facilitators and barriers to implementation. u2022 Developed health facility assessment tools for baseline data collection.u2022 Coordinated referrals with patients and families to external medical providers, including specialists and diagnostic testing, as well as community resources, at a federally qualified health center accredited as a patient centered medical home and which provides initial refugee health screenings for all newly arriving refugees in the Pittsburgh region. u2022 Advocated for language access among regional medical providers and address other barriers to care for a patient population in which over 60 percent of patients speak a primary language other than English. u2022 Managed programs aimed at expanding access to care, including overseeing the enrollment of over 400 patients in a transportation program within the first two years as a contracted site, as well as programs to assist uninsured patients in obtaining affordable medications. u2022 Led team to develop expanded care management model for patients with complex conditions and high system utilization, as well as managed tracking and reporting processes in order to report patient outcomes to management team and Board of Directors.u2022 Coordinated flow of patients accessing behavioral health services among behavioral health providers, medical providers, and clinical support staff in an integrated primary care setting. u2022 Served as an integral member in the expansion of the behavioral health team, which included participating in the hiring process for new staff and operationalizing patient tracking initiatives to ensure patients are not lost from care.u2022 Respond to client and staff concerns by connecting clients to appropriate medical providers, benefits offices, or other resources, including nutrition, family and child, and mental health services. u2022 Accompany clients to appointments and ensure interpretation, while teaching self-sufficiency skills. u2022 Engage in appropriate follow up, which includes ongoing and timely communication with colleagues, clients and other service providers with an emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. u2022 Established productive relationships with Pittsburgh-area service providers.u2022 Assisted in compiling and writing reports distributed to committee staff and Members of Congress. u2022 Conducted research for press releases, op-eds and reports as assigned by counsel.Coordinated the service provision for trafficking victims through the National Human Trafficking Victim Assistance Program and the federal certification of adult victims of trafficking through ongoing communication with federal law enforcement, social service providers, and attorneys.Conducted research for and participated in meetings with congressional staff on issues related to unaccompanied immigrant children, including advocacy during the FY 2013 appropriations process. Attended congressional hearings and wrote briefs, highlighting the issues relevant to KIND. Assisted Development Director in the planning and implementation of the Annual Pro Bono Awards.Compiled and analyzed media video clips pertaining to the representation of undocumented immigrants. Reviewed scholarship on linguistic anthropology to assist with the projectu2019s theoretical framework.Researched, coordinated, and assisted writing a federal grant application for the Department of Justice.
