Scott Ditschun’s Expertise I have had the privilege of working at Bayer on the Research and Development team in Guelph. In my years at Bayer I have acquired the knowledge and experience in the field which has graduated me to the title of ‘Field Agronomist’ as well as achieving my Masters in Plant Agriculture, with a focus in weed science. While working on my Masters at the University of Guelph I had the opportunity to work with academic scholars in the field and become acquainted with many of the research and data sharing practices of Universities and Government. Writing my thesis on ‘control of glyphosate resistant Canada fleabane and giant ragweed’ expanded my knowledge on the challenges that the industry and growers face. The Masters process also forced me to become more comfortable summarizing, preparing and orally presenting data. In turn, this became exceedingly useful when Bayer sends me to present at national conferences with members from industry and academia, as well as field tours. The ability to summarize and present our data has also been crucial when attending planning and marketing meetings. My field practices are something I am proud of. I have enjoyed working on row crop, horticulture and the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) research teams. As well as large scale special projects looking at field scale Honey Bee forage patterns on canola and a new seed fluency agent to reduce dust from vacuum planters. From my field experiences I was also given the task to recruit, train and oversee summer students. Meticulous and fastidious are terms I would use to explain my work ethic in the field, but ‘handy’ or ‘innovative’ are terms my colleagues might use for me as well. I have become known as the farm’s ‘Monkey Wrench’ as I enjoy the challenge of maintaining, fixing and researching ways to make the farm equipment more efficient. I attribute these skills to my degree in Engineering and a desire to keep everything working smoothly and efficiently. I have thoroughly enjoyed working for Bayer and wish to continue with new challenges and opportunities. My enthusiasm, experience, work ethic, and capacity to learn has allowed me to excel in my positions at Bayer.
