Shakya Sur’s Expertise Facilitating co-development of research partnerships between Indigenous communities and engineering faculty on essential infrastructure needs - climate change adaptation, food security, access to clean drinking water, resilient housing and reliable energy. Using a community-driven, Two-Eyed Seeing approach, seeking to harmonize Western Science and Traditional Knowledge in co-developing solutions.u2022 Designed a low-cost, sustainable aeration system to enhance aquaculture productivity from fish ponds in the Asia-Pacific region u2022 Constructed and implemented a framework for identifying a suitable system design for field testing using a comprehensive CFD model, bench-scale experiments, field data and geometry optimization u2022 Designed a novel geometry for aeration system that lowered cost, improved performance by 81% and has been adopted for large-scale randomized control trials (RCTs) in Mymensingh, Bangladesh u2022 Installed prototypes and weather stations at field locations in Vietnam and Bangladesh. Taught four maths and science classes at the intermediate and advanced levels in an academic enrichment program based on the Ontario curriculum. Designed and taught hands-on, activity-based science lesson plans according to California Standards in three Grade 4 classes at Norwood Street Elementary School, Los Angeles. u2022 Scheduled, planned and completed a hydraulic model of the heavy-oil gathering system to predict bottlenecks for future facilities installations, using PIPE-FLO Professional, GIS, AutoCAD and field tests u2022 Constructed an integrated database of updated system maps, process-flow-diagrams and manifold slot tracking tools to facilitate project planning for Development, Production and Total Process Reliability teams. u2022 Conducted a lean Six Sigma-based field experiment to compare, assess feasibility, and optimize well automation technology (Variable Speed Drives, Rod Pump Controllers) on selected pumping units u2022 Identified and demonstrated potential for annual savings worth $1.02 million upon field-wide implementation of Rod Pump Controllers. Manufactured u2018swiss-rollu2019 shaped burners using SolidWorks and 3D-printing; analyzed various geometries to improve combustion efficiency and fuel reforming abilities; conceived and built a 3D u2018toroidalu2019 burner design.
