  Years ago, I was a merchant seaman, but I wanted to work an IT job. Even as a child, I was always a computer enthusiast, but if you are doing manual labor and want to get into technology, it's hard to get people to take you seriously. I completed the Computer Support Certificate program at SPC in 2012. That is how I was able to get my foot into the door of the IT world. Once I had my certificate, I was able to land an entry level job in a call center. I started doing client system support for hardware and software issues. This included desktops, laptops, notebooks, and tablets. I helped a lot of people with viruses and BSODs. I then moved on to support server hardware. I helped with "no power" or "no POST" scenarios and RAID issues. I also did a lot of work on KVMs, KMMs, UPS and rack issues. I stayed working on the server stuff while I completed my computer networking degree. After graduating, I worked in a NOC for a while as a network technician. My degree was primarily focused on network administration vs engineering even though I took a couple of Cisco classes and got my CCNA. I eventually got a good paying help desk support job, which kind of realigned my direction again. At my current job, I do user support, but I am also 365/Azure/Exchange admin. I have acquired numerous certifications over the years. I continue to pursue training or education opportunities that I can fit into my schedule while working.
