Shawn Solberg’s Expertise My career began at Micron working on low-power DRAM as an Electrical Engineer. I found that many day-to-day problems could be uncovered and fixed using data analysis. I used Perl and JMP to write ETLs and make reports. As the need for reporting grew I took advice and switched to Python to take advantage of its libraries (pandas, scipy) and began automating data extractions and weekly Pareto and ANOVA reports. As those reports became more popular I learned AngularJS and Highcharts to make a UI for people to request and view their own reports. Before I knew it I had made an API without knowing what an API was. I was recruited to a team of developers where I picked up SQL, messaging queues (Redis) and was learning things like test-driven development and object oriented programming. After 5 years as a product engineer and 5 more as an engineer doing software development, I decided to dive into the deep end of software dev and apply to Clearwater Analytics. My first year at Clearwater took me on a journey of learning Java and Angular while working on an in-house tool for our CICD pipeline. Being on that team was great for proving myself as a developer, but took a turn as we wanted to have a true CICD pipeline using Jenkins (Cloudbees). During my second year I learned AWS and Cloud Formation to help my team automate our CICD pipeline. This meant also learning all the infrastructure a site-reliability engineer should know like load balancers and auto-scaling groups. I studied hard and earned my AWS certificate as a Solutions Architect. My third year: Clearwater changed directions and are doing everything in Google cloud (GCP) and Terraform. Bring it on. After moving my services to GCP and finding a natural break in my work I opted to apply to a different team to get back on a developer track. I expanded my search, and that led me to a nearby company, Vacasa, with former teammates from both Micron and Clearwater! Vacasa hired me as an MLE where I'm working to validate model inputs and outputs for the Data Science team. I'm loving the interesting problems and am thrilled to be back on the developer track. Bonus: I'm back in AWS land where my hard earned certification is being put to good use. I'm worlds away from the circuits I studied in college, but I'm not one to shy away from an interesting journey or turn down the chance to work on a challenge
