I have spent most of my academic and recent professional career in Southeast Asia. I am facinated with the region and it has been my life long dream to work across South and Southeast Asia on conservation and poverty issues. My journey started for my Master´s thesis when I went to Cambodia and researched the potential of community-based ecotourism to alleviate poverty and conserve biodiversity in the Cardamom Mountains. This time really openend my eyes on the complexities revolving around conservation and sustainable development due to a plethora of perspectives, interests, and needs. After the completion of my thesis I interned with the Freeland Foundation in Thailand, focusing on protected area management. After graduating from Wageningen University´s Forest and Nature Conservation Master´s Program, I directly started working for the People Resources and Conservation Foundation (PRCF). PRCF projects revolved around capacity building of forest-dependent and marginalized communities to sustainably manage biodiversity-rich landscapes. I was given the opportunity to set up an entire new program, while being a fresh university graduate. This meant I had to learn by doing. Despite the myiards of challanges and initial lack of experience, I have set up and initiated the implementation of PRCF´s program in North Sumatra, securing the needed funds, designing the overall program, building partnerships, and recruiting the team. The program in North Sumatra is now fully operational and focuses on the famous Batang Toru Forest Ecosystem and the lesser known Hadabuan Hills Landscape. Further, I am involved in PRCF´s longstanding West Kalimantan Village Forestry Program, aiding in securing results-based finance for long-term support for conservation management and livelihood support for over 20 Village Forests. In addition, I work on helping to establish PRCF´s new project in the Gia Lai province of Vietnam under PRCF Vietnam Program. Recently I have started sourcing and scoping potential new projects with the main focus being India (Tamil Nadu) and Bangladesh, where I visit potential local NGO partners and assess the opportunity for engagement and support.
