Spencer Reames’s Expertise I am a Senior at Michigan Technological University with an expected graduation date of December 2018. During my first internship experience with Means Industries, I was able to learn more about the work of an engineer and perform many tests in the test lab and see how their clutch systems worked. I also worked closely with a development engineer and helped determine the best solution to control pressure spikes seen on test parts on a hydraulic test bench. During my second internship with Means Industries, I worked at their manufacturing plant and worked closely with the manufacturing engineers there. Here, I used my previous knowledge of AutoCAD to design concentricity gages for a new line of parts that were going into production. I also used CAD to design a manifold to help diminish a flatness issue and to help flush out parts going through a deburring machine. I also took over a part study for a new line of parts to decide what flatness settings would be best. I also used my machining skills to make changes to a part catching tree and use these machines to design improvements.
