Stefanie Iennaco’s Expertise Growing up as an athlete, I never put much thought into the business behind the sport. I have been amazed to learn about the different aspects of running a professional sports organization and how there are jobs for every interest- from finance to marketing, and beyond. During this journey I was given the opportunity to learn a new skill set by accepting a position in the Diversity & Inclusion department, which has opened my eyes to the possibilities of making sport- on the field and behind the scenes- open and inclusive to all. My most rewarding project to date is managing the USTA's flagship Diversity & Inclusion Internship Program, which brings diverse college students to the USTA for a comprehensive summer program. Under my leadership, the program has grown to include a professional development track, as well as a group project component which allows interns to showcase their individual skills in a way that also provides business solutions to the company. By serving as a mentor both during the program and beyond, I have been able to facilitate the hiring of two interns to full time positions in the organization, as well as several seasonal opportunities. In addition to the many hats I wear in my everyday role, I also serve as a volunteer leader of the Millennial Resource Group, of which I am a founding member. My participation in this group has allowed me to expand my leadership and communication skills, as well as liaise with senior staff in a way that would not happen in my official role. Leading this group has not only been fun (think tennis socials with local young professionals and hosting a carnival themed reception at an industry workshop), but has allowed me to find my management style and voice in the organization. Using this group to grow my personal brand at work has resulted in being invited to the table and sought out for feedback by coworkers at every level of the organization.
