Suzanne Tencer s.tencer@ecu.edu.au & | I am an experienced registered nurse with extensive clinical expertise in critical and acute care settings. I have been actively involved in nursing education at both the undergraduate and post graduate level since 1984, in both clinical and tertiary education facilities. I am committed to providing an environment that nurtures and facilitates learning utilising a relational pedagogical approach in my teaching. This type of pedagogy enhances the development critical thinking and problem solving qualities in students, especially those that are first in family at university and from low SES groups. Additionally my teaching philosophy is constructed around Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy which facilitates student nurses to reach their potential and contribute to the delivery of better health care to their clients. During my career as an academic in a university teaching into both undergraduate Nursing and Science degrees I have taught and coordinated units in the following subjects: • Critical care – theoretical principles and clinical skills • Pathophysiology and disease management • Pharmacology • Law and Ethics • Paediatrics • Governance in Health Care Research interests are centered on learning and teaching and include simulation learning, experiential learning, theory to practice gap and the impact of self-efficacy on student learning outcomes.
