In 2008, she was awarded a distinction in her MA in Design, New media and Technology, for which she developed three practice-based interaction design projects using physical computing. In 2015 she completed her PhD at Plymouth University – A postcolonial investigation into the role of cultural hegemony in industrial design practice, process and pedagogy. Her work argues that design is not intrinsic to a product but often a result of hegemonic forces and factors acting on it. By reinterpreting technological formations in light of research emerging from post-colonial studies, she discusses how product design often relies on western [hegemonic] aesthetic and deep cultural archetypes and highlights the potentials for a more culturally aware prospective vision for global design.
