In the late 90's, the trend for local coffee's, single origins, and flavored coffee started to dominate the market, so we started investigating what was needed to start a roasting company, which we launched the Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company in March of 2002. As we were up against strong national & regional brands, we need to differentiate ourselves and did so with making a financial commitment to help restore the Chesapeake, which developed into the H20 Initiative a 2% contribution of coffee sales & direct community engagement. We also committed the company to maintain sustainable business practices from the roaster through to our packaging; truly pioneering areas in the coffee industry. As a result of the recession, we had to refocus the brand from just wholesale to retail and improve our look. We did and by doing so, we attached new investors to help us grow the business.
