  My name is Anthony Ward I am a Firefighter/Paramedic for the town of Westport MA. Westport Fire is a small department of 20 Firefighter/paramedics manning two ALS ambulances, two engines, a tanker, a ladder, brush equipment, and marine equipment. Manning two two stations with two men in each station and an officer when available. With this we service 15,500 year round residence, covering 64 sq miles, with 14 sq miles of this being water. Working in a small department we are required to perform the same jobs to accomplish the same tasks as a large department just not as often and with less help. I find the best part about working in a small town is that you will never know what you are doing tomorrow but it will always be different than yesterday. One minute you could be running into a burning building, or rescuing someone from the water, the next minute you are in the back of an ambulance rushing someone to the hospital from a medical incident, or some accident causing great trauma. I also work fro the Bristol County Technical Rescue Team, this is a County wide team like our older sister HAZMAT team, has been developed to help all departments in the County to deal with very dangerous situations that require a great deal of training, and manpower but do not occur on a daily basis. Some of these situations include structural collapse rescue (partial or complete), confined space rescue, high angle rescue, and trench rescue all requiring very expensive rescue equipment, lots of training and plenty of manpower. So by working together as a larger group we are able to provide a great service at a low cost as long as the call volume stays low. My third Job is with Southcoast Hospital group working in the Charleton Memorial Emergency Room as a Paramedic. Bristol County Technical Rescue Team
