Tracee Short’s Expertise As Medical Director, I oversee the operations of the adult and pediatric burn units. I ensure that our center remains at the forefront of burn technology, provide outreach to the community, and serve as the physician voice for the unit.Burns: Care for adult and pediatric burn patients in acute setting and through long-term management; Use laser therapy and other reconstructive techniques for post-burn complications; Provide care that extends beyond the patient to include the family and all affected by this drastic change; Educate the community about burn prevention; Participate in outreach to the survivors adjusting to a new life after a burn experience.I am the founder and creator of the Foundation that began as a family contributed memorial scholarship fund. I have created an identity for this organization: providing branding, increased scholarship distribution and strategy development to increase donor awareness and contributions. In the 1 year training at UNC I have learned care at the busiest burn center in the east. I am comfortable with the initial assessment and long term management of burned patients. I have also received additional training in laser therapy in burn wounds. Here I trained for a year in facial and body cosmetic procedures. I also learned the application of lasers for hair removal, spider veins, hyperpigmentation and textural changes. I received a foundation for surgical technique for improving a comprehensive, whole body approach to cosmetic surgery. I assisted and performed the following surgeries: blephoraplasty, breast augmentation and reduction, liposuction, abdominoplasty.I was responsible for overseeing the activities of myself and 3 physician extenders as we treated patients that presented with a host of acute needs. I read radiographs, interpreted labs and performed in-office procedures. I also coordinated transfer to referring facilities and communicated with accepting staff.I learned the foundations of surgery here at Mercy Hospital. I underwent training in the evaluation and delivery of patient care from start to finish for all general and vascular surgery procedures.
