  Following representing Sussex Police on the 1985 and 1986 Milk Race as ACPO Liaison Officer, I continued my involvement with cycle road racing on the 1987 Milk Race as the driver for the newly formed Police National Escort Group. The Pru Tour 'revived' the 'Tour of Britain' for 2 years, In early 2000 a 'civilian' National Escort Group was started to assist road based sporting event organisers including cycle road races and triathlon's with and additional high visibility safety cover. The current NEG has developed to cover all regions of the UK, incl Scotland and Wales with a dedicated and enthusiastic corp of motorcyclists covering all categories of cycle road races, triathlons, charity events, half marathons / marathons etc. Many NEG are from the Milk Race days of civvy marshal or police NEG, with many others former racing cyclists, using skills to try and enhance safety cover on events as police involvement has reduced from nearly all but the high profile races like the current Tour of Britain event, the Tour De France on its visit to the UK in 2004. With the Olympics this year the hopes of us all are in being involved in what is a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity. I have been involved in the Institute of Advanced Motrorists since 1992, when a very good friend (he wouldn't like me to name him but he deserves the credit BK) started East Sussex Advanced Motorcyclists. I assisted, with my police motorcycling background as training and latterly chief observer, moving on to become a motorcycle examiner from 1997 until the present day. In my professional occupation I hold the BIIAB NCPLH and Licensing Practitioners qualifications in the LA2003 and Gambling Act 2005,a LA2003 personal licence and First Aid @ Work certificate.
