Tristram Atkins’s Expertise Tristram Atkins' 2005 short film, Ongeriewe, was nominated in competition for a Palme d'Or at the 2006 Festival de Cannes. The second South African film in history and the first Afrikaans film in competition at Cannes. It won Best South African Short Film at the Durban International Film Festival in the same year. Then did a global film festival tour screening on six continents. He has written and/or produced for TV, film, commercials and theatre as well as promotional videos for non-governmental organisations, trade unions and social movements such as La Marcha Mundial de las Mujeres (The World March of Women) in Brazil. In 2011 he produced and directed a documentary on the Global Economic Crisis. Tristram worked as one of the producers on Crumbs, a documentary about price collusion within the South African bread industry, for which the team won a Loerie Award. He wrote on Amaza, a SABC1 prime time TV drama series which positioned itself amongst the top three shows on the SAARF/MarkLives #Top40TVratings in 2014, with a best audience viewership of 7,5 million. He storylined and wrote on Z'bondiwe (Seasons 1, 2 and 3) which aired on ETV in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Tristram has been a writer on kykNET's Afrikaans soapie, Suidooster, since 2015. He also wrote a made-for-TV film 'n Ekstra Werkie for kykNET which aired February 2016. Storylined and wrote on kykNET's Sara se Geheim Season 1, 2 & 3. Was the head writer on Side by Side season 1 & 2, a 48-part radio drama on ECD. Wrote on DanZ! (TV drama), Swartwater 2 (TV drama), Ring of Lies 2 (Telenovela), A Noble Thief (TV crime drama), The Riviera (TV Sitcom), Skemerdans (TV drama), head writer on a drama series on a mobile platform. Current writing projects in development are two feature films, a TV drama and a TV crime drama which he has created as part of a South African-Canadian co-development initiative. 2019 marked his directorial debut on the short film Janneman. Tristram is also Mandela Rhodes Scholar.
