This includes: making submissions to parliament on fake news, disinformation, reality TV, human rights and AI; participating in festivals and high profile debates on dataveillance and disinformation; working with professional organisations like the UK digital media regulator, Ofcom, to understand research on digital literacy and harms, and the National Union of Journalists to develop guidelines for achieving better public accountability of intelligence agencies; working with artists to make the abstract, complex processes of dataveillance more concrete to the public; and working with companies to embed ethical principles in the design of their data-driven products. I review for a wide range of international research bodies (incl. European Commission), UK UKRI funders (Economic and Social Research Council, Arts and Humanities Research Council, EPSRC) as well as book publishers and academic journals.
