He has worked extensively with industry in energy, information technology, manufacturing and transport. He sat on a few not-for-profit company boards including a role as Interim Chair Board of Directors of Oceania Cyber Security Centre Limited between April 2020 and January 2021. He is currently Chair of the International Advisory Board of Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute at University of Technology Sydney, Australia. His research expertise is in control systems engineering, artificial intelligence, and energy systems. For his contributions, he received the 2018 MA Sargent Medal from the Electrical and ITEE Colleges of Engineers Australia, the 2018 Australasian Artificial Intelligence Distinguished Research Contribution Award from Australian Computer Society, the 2013 Dr.-Ing. Eugene Mittelmann Achievement Award from IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, and a number of other awards. He was named a Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering by Clarivate from 2015 to 2022 consecutively.
