In amongst the fear and worry of looking out for loved ones and trying to follow government guidelines, I have seen some amazing things: Communities coming together to look after the vulnerable, key workers tirelessly and unselfishly showing up day after day to keep the country running, and a definite shift in how we adapt to challenges in our working environment. Working offshore in a restricted bubble with global colleagues was always going to be high risk. Over the last year I've witnessed constant changes trip after trip with the sole purpose of keeping us all safe though this pandemic. Preventative measures are continually being introduced to try to keep people safe at work and more importantly send them all home to loved ones with a clear conscience. With the uncertainty at the beginning of the summer, any suspected case offshore was immediately isolated and steps were taken to get that person back to Aberdeen. Follow up care was organized for that person and any others who had been in close contact. I have dealt with several Covid helicopters and as time goes on we are better equipped to deal with suspected or confirmed cases especially with the new addition of the testing machine. I have a great working relationship with my employer and client offshore, as well as the onshore team and pilots. Its a phenomenal logistical operation to ensure the safety of everybody concerned and with the regular flights day to day to day it can be exhausting. However, we do whatever is necessary at the time for those most in need and when we eventually finish we all have a glow from intrinsic rewards. We are only able to do this with the co-operation of both offshore personnel and onshore colleagues, who have adapted to working from home flawlessly and still offer exceptional support. I am hopeful the world will overcome this harrowing and difficult time to rise and rebuild for a better future. Smc
