During my course I gained knowledge in a wide range of subject areas in which several were applied and developed further during a placement year in industry. During the same year I also took on a completely new project to fill a weakness in my skillset with the aim to improve my personal learning and challenge myself with a project I had no relatable experience with. This resulted in beginning a build of my own kit car, which has been on the road since February 2014, a timely 12 months after starting the build. This challenge was then developed further in 2017 with the introduction of a completely different engine to integrate with no precedent to follow. This challenge required custom designed components as well as plenty of testing and fault finding including upgrading of a number of systems which could not meet the new requirements. My current role allows me to develop this passion further, developing my knowledge to include current regulations and production requirements during the integration of powertrain components. As a PSTI Design Engineer, I generate new design proposals within Catia V5 across a wide range of Powertrain systems, some of which I only have a basic knowledge of. This means I have to research and learn about any new areas to ensure I can create a robust design proposal first time that meets the system requirements, reducing the need for rework or further conflicts with other components. I am a firm believer in my own capabilities to adapt my skills set to learn and perform in any situation that arises. I have gained this confidence through measurable success over a vast amount of challenging experiences both personally and during my career, challenges that I continue to strive for to provide myself with further development opportunities.
